Hi! Persimmon Hill Recreation Area is located conveniently off of I-55 up towards the northern reaches of Mississippi. It is an Army Corp of Engineers campground, complete with a two-mile long dam and the large lake, Lake Enid, it creates. The campground has its crowded and not so crowded areas. I arrived on a Saturday afternoon from the Gulf Coast. The campground was full. The majority of sites seemed to be occupied by happy families on holiday. There were so many kids, many with bicycles and/or scooters. The variety of campers and tents is amazing, too. This is true at many campgrounds. And there were plenty of sites where it looked they had come for a weekend of barbecue and cookouts with propane gas stoves set up in the sites and lots of cut firewood for sitting around the campfire.
My campsite was located at the entrance to the actual campsites, Site 2, and as such it was away from all the commotion. Instead of being surrounded by other campers, I was backed up to a beautiful forest of tall pine trees.
I opted to not do a bike ride, but I did a long walk on the shore of the lake and over to the dam.
Although it was just a one-day stopover, I was there about sixteen hours, my Merlin app picked up twenty-nine different bird species.
